The Little Rock Rangers earned 9 points in 3 games with wins over FC Corinthians of San Antonio, the Fort Worth Vaqueros, and Liverpool Academy to make a late playoff push.
On June 22nd, the Rangers defeated FC Corinthians of San Antonio 3-2. Gabriel Viola led the Rangers attack with 2 goals including the game winner in stoppage time. Substitute Elias Hatungimana also had a goal on the night and Ferdinand Matebu added another assist to his season total which now stands at 6. Second half substitute goalie, Carlos Herrera earned the win in net.
The Rangers had a quick turnaround when they traveled to Fort Worth to take on the Vaqueros on Friday. The Rangers started out slow, going down 1-0 in the 29th minute. Trevor Reed answered by heading a cross from Josiah Ireland into net in the 33rd minute to tie the game. The Rangers did not wait long to strike again, when in the 35th minute Jaden Hoth headed a corner kick into goal to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead. Fort Worth responded before the second half to tie the match going into halftime. Trevor Reed scored his second goal of the night in the 64th minute before the Vaqueroes tied it up in the 68th minute. The game winner came from substitute, Mauricio Hernandez, who scored on a pass from Matebu in the 78th minute.
On Sunday, the Rangers completed the sweep by defeating Liverpool Academy 3-1. Goals came from Reed, Viola, and substitute, Hatungimana.
The Rangers' three game, road trip, sweep gives them a chance at a playoff birth going into next Saturday's season finale at Dallas City FC. In order for the Rangers to secure the 6th and final playoff spot, they need Shreveport Rafters FC to beat Dallas City FC on Wednesday and then the Rangers need to beat Dallas City FC next Saturday.
